A 250 mile loop through the mountains of central Italy.
The earth moved
As the temperature in the UK started to dip, I headed to the Abruzzo region of Italy in search of more comfortable cycling conditions, and more spectacular scenery. I hadn't banked on arriving in the middle of the worst series of earthquakes the country had experienced for 50 years.
After 3 days and 250 miles crossing from valley to valley across mountain passes, I avoided the quakes. But travelling in the region, watching the news reports and coming across monuments to past victims made me appreciate how hard it is to live with the constant fear of your world collapsing around you.
